Projectiles in resisted motion completes the Mechanics topic in NSW Year 12 Mathematics Extension 2 (NESA outcome ME2-12-05). This subtopic distinguishes the shape of a projectile’s trajectory with negligible resistance from its trajectory when subject to a resistance whose magnitude is proportional to the speed.
Students and teachers will cover how to establish and use the equations for the horizontal and vertical acceleration of a projectile launched at an angle \(\theta\) under gravity and air resistance, and derive its displacement equations to solve problems — the most advanced motion model in the HSC Extension 2 course.
