Integration by Substitution

Integration by substitution is a core technique in the Further integration topic of NSW Year 12 Mathematics Extension 2 (NESA outcome ME2-12-04). This subtopic finds indefinite integrals and evaluates definite integrals using the method of substitution, where the substitution may or may not be given.

Students and teachers will cover how to choose an effective substitution, change the variable and the limits of a definite integral, and reduce a difficult integrand to a standard form — one of the most widely used integration methods in the HSC Extension 2 course.
