Integration by partial fractions is part of the Further integration topic in NSW Year 12 Mathematics Extension 2 (NESA outcome ME2-12-04). This subtopic decomposes a rational function whose denominator is a product of distinct linear factors, distinct irreducible quadratic factors and perfect square factors into partial fractions.
Students and teachers will cover how to set up and solve for the unknown constants and then integrate each simpler fraction — the standard route to integrating rational functions in the HSC Extension 2 course.
